Bruce's book has the prints for the chamber reamer and case dimensions for the .300 AMP cartridge. I know the .357 AMP is very popular, but what happened to the .300?

Were any ever shipped?

I came across some loading data for the .30 Herrett the other day, and then some notes I'd made back in, uh, 1982. Back then I was *really* pumped about the .30 Herrett, which was being loaded to amazing velocities.

The Herrett was designed for the Contender, and the empty case is the same length as a loaded AMP round, though smaller in diameter. But I didn't realize the prints for the .300 AMP predate the introduction of the .30 Herrett (in 1972) by a year.

Kent Lomont did a .30 LMP. The Auto Mag Wikipedia page says the .30 LMP's shoulder angle was different from the .300 AMP. I haven't found out much else about the .30 LMP.

After seeing the 8mm KMP thread, I'm even more curious about what the .300 AMP might have become. As I've learned more about the Auto Mag I suspect it might have been finicky as far as reliability in the Auto Mag. Though there are other pistols that take similar-length cartridges...

The 30 Lomont was like the 357, just a necked down 357AM. I used the same reamer and called mine the 30 Cougar, as I recall only 2 made. The 300 AMP a different cartridge. Check with Bert on the 300 AMP. LEJ

What can you tell me about the .30 Cougar? How did it perform? What bullets did you use? What length barrel?

I had a 12" 30 LMP for awhile.  It worked fine with 30/30 type bullets in the 130gr range.  I could never get it to cycle 110 grain bullets.  I discussed the 30 LMP with Kent Lomont back around 1999 when he was at the Knob Creek machine gun shoot.  He said the 12" 30 LMP was his favorite Auto Mag setup.  Shown here, is a Baby Auto Mag, 12" 30 LMP pistol, 6.5" 44 AMP barrel, 6.5" 41 JMP barrel, 8.5" 357 AMP barrel, and 8.5" 41 AMP barrel.

Thanks Tony. Do you have any loading data for that?

I don't think I have any data on hand....but you really don't need any.  Just pour in some H110 or 296 and stick the bullet on top.  If the gun doesn't cycle, pour in some more.
