Many years ago I was in a gun shop and they had a 400 Corbon and a 357 SIG under glass for sale.  $350 for each of them.  Unfortunately I had just spent everything I had for a 357AMP Auto Mag with them.  I asked if they would take a deposit and I'd be back in 2 weeks when I got paid.  They told me no they wouldn't hold them.  So, 2 weeks later when I got paid I went back and they were gone.  I held a grudge against that shop and never spent another penny there again.

I've never seen another one for sale until now.

Man, i wish I could have gotten those!

I see the 45 Win Mag barrel brought $1425.00.

A few years back they would bring $2000 to $2500 routinely.  That appeared to be a very nice one also.

Prices are down considerably from years back.

It seems the prices started to soften after the announcement of the New Auto Mag

My opinion for whatever it is worth is that if you are looking for collector value, then an older is the way to go. They are already pushing 50 years old. If you are looking for a higher use automag then the new is probably the way to go. Not sure if it is the new effecting the sell prices of the older or if it is just the rising cost of everything cutting into most peoples disposable income. Best option, buy an old and a new one and have the best of both worlds.

I have AMP barrels in 45 Win Mag but I have never shot that cartridge in an Auto Mag.

When I first bought one probably 15 years ago I called an old friend who is an Auto Mag shooter/reloader/collector for some load advice and he said he could never get the 45 WM cartridge to be be reliable in any of his guns.  The cartridge really has no advantage over the 44 AMP cartridge so I never tried to shoot it.

I have shot the 45 WM in both Wildeys and Grizzlies and it is a good cartridge in those guns.

My 45 Win Mag barrel functioned with the old Winchester Hunting round (supreme?) which I think was 250 or 260gr.  However, it doesn’t with Winchester 230gr FMJ.  Mine someone added a rib which added weight so that may be part of it.
