I have the unfortunate task of locating a replacement rear sight for my 3 & 3/8" Automag 2. Looks like it had been repaired at some point by a previous owner, but has broken again and I do not have the tools or skill to fix it. See the pictures below.

The sight is the 3-dot type with rear being adjustable (very similar to the rear sight on the larger automags, but different dimensions obviously). I'll buy a rear sight if anyone happens to have one or a parts pistol. Let me know if you have any leads, greatly appreciated.

EBAY would be your best bet,
Maybe someone here knows who made the sight...

It looks like it might have made by Millett.

One left in stock here. Hopefully their inventory is up to date.

Yeah, i'll have to check ebay periodically. I messaged one guy who is selling a AM2 parts kit, but its a 6" model and the sight is the "longhorn" style. He said he didn't have my style of sight but he'd keep an eye out.

Thanks Eagle, I already bought that specific sight even though its the wrong style. I have bough ta bunch of parts from InterArms, they sell pretty good stuff.

Eventually I may just have buy a parts gun or a working one in rough shape and strip it, sadly.

That’s a millet sight.  I can’t look until next week but I think I have a couple for AM IIs.

Looks like someone was trying to elevate the sight more to adjust point of aim and broke it.

Shoot me a PM

Jason.

Thanks Bullseye, but that one won't fit my model unfortunately. Jason, I'll message you

While it appears to be a Millett sight...the milled area it fits in looks much like a Colt cutout for the Colt Accro or Elliason rear sights.  It makes little sense for the Automag II design to use a custom rear sight when they could easily and more inexpensively sourced a design already produced.

I could well be wrong on that...but it does look very similar without having one to test.  If so...Kensight makes the Accro and Elliason sights now...or find a Millett made for a Colt. If it's a proprietary Millett sight...it might be tough to source.

Thanks for the info, those sights do look correct but there's only one picture on the Kensight page per item. I'll try to contact them and get additional pictures, I'll need to know if the holes are drilled in the bottom of the sight for the firing pin retention pin and the leveling springs.

Here is another option. I’ve purchased parts kits from them before. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a “parts gun” and no FFL transfer fees or hassles. It looks like they have one Automag II kit in stock.

That's a good resource as well and looks like the sight is correct as well. I'll see if I can contact them and confirm. Thanks for the lead!

TylerS, did you ever find a rear sight?  Was Jason able to hook you up?

I just unburied my "stash".  These are all the same.  With that said, these are not the same as the one posted on IntraArms website, or the one on eBay (mentioned in an earlier posts).

If you think one of these will work, let me know.

Nice collection, thanks for looking for me. Yes, Jason was able to hook me up and a rear sight is on its way to me. I will update the thread with pics once I have it installed

Well, unfortunately the "longhorn" style sight is not fully compatible with my pistol. The dimensions are correct and the sight physically fits in place, but the main screw that threads into the slide is not compatible. The threads don't match, that's the issue. And I can't just swap the screws because the detent is a different design.

I don't understand why they made the rear sight specifically incompatible between the 3 3/8" pistol and the other two AM2 models, but oh well.

For now, I'll keep shopping for a replacement or a parts pistol. I emailed Kensight to get some more detailed images of one of their Elliason sight, we'll see what happens there.

Shout out to Jason, he did send me a replacement sight with all the necessary parts. Just didn't work out

Just to put a bow on this thread, I ended up using the replacement sight that Jason sold me. I had to reuse the original center screw since its the only one available to me that matched the threads on the slide. I had to modify the screw by grinding down the circumference of it's head so it would be small enough to sit down inside the replacement sight. It's not exactly pretty, but it gives me a usable sight. I also have the matching front sight that could be installed, but I dont plan to buy a dual crimp tool any time soon.

I'll probably end up selling this pistol if anyone is interested, but im glad the rear sight adventure was a qualified success.
