Supporting Conservation
The World Land TrustWe have been supporting World Land Trust since 2010, currently, through their buy an acre programme, to preserve and restore a quarter-an-acre each month of wildlife habitats under imminent threat of destruction. Our contributions to World Land Trust have helped to protect several reserves across Ecuador including the Río Canandé Reserve in the wet Choco and the dry forests at Laipuna.
Solar Powered
The most significant way that we are reducing our carbon footprint is by generating our own renewable electricity from on-site array of Solar Panels, which powers our green data centre and office. The solar panels can provide up to 50% of the electricity that we use over a year.
100% Renewable Energy100% Renewable Energy
Additional electricity not produced from on-site solar power comes from our electricity provider Good Energy, with 100% of their electricity being supplied from their local UK renewable generators.
Carbon Neutral OrganisationCarbon Neutral
While we aim to have a zero-carbon footprint, we still produce a tiny amount of CO2 each year. From 2022 to 2023, this was just 0.3 tonnes which we offset six times as much via Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) approved projects to reduce deforestation in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. In addition, we offset the equivalent amount of carbon through local tree-planting projects.
Solar Energy StorageSolar Energy Storage
When the Sun goes down, on-site solar power generation stops, but that does not mean we cannot use the electricity generated in the day time. Thanks to our energy storage systems, we can store excess solar energy to power our data centre overnight.
Direct Air Cooling & Heat RecoveryDirect Air Cooling & Heat Recovery
The cool British climate in winter allows us to use outside air to cool our data centre, with the warm air generated by our servers used to heat our offices.
Green ComputingEnergy-Efficient Servers
To reduce the amount of power consumed by our servers, we use highly efficient cloud edge servers based on the latest Intel Xeon-D System-on-a-Chip (SoC) platform, which helps us reduce our energy consumption by 80% compared to regular servers.
Server VirtualisationServer Virtualisation
To further reduce our carbon emissions, we use server virtualisation, which has environmental advantages as it reduces the amount of physical hardware we require by 90%, while also improving reliability and uptime.
PAYG Cloud HostingPay-As-You-Use Cloud Web Hosting
With our pay-as-you-use shared web hosting services, you only pay for the resource you use. We have found that this is better for the environment as it encourages customers to remove inactive services and data that would otherwise be left running 24/7 in the cloud while saving customers money on their hosting bills.
Solar Powered Data CentreGreen Data Centre
Completed in May 2018 our data centre is owned and operated by ourselves allowing us to build from the design stage to construction an ecological data centre. Read more about our Green Data Centre.
