Hi guys.
I’m new here. I’m 40 years young ![]() I’m waiting for a few automag iii pistols in .30 carbine at the moment, and I guess I’ll have them in about 2-3 weeks. Two of them are IAI and one is AMT. I’m very curious what the differences between them will be. One of the IAI pistols will be a project-gun as the previous owner milled away the top of the slide where the rear sight sits, to install an ugly piece of picatinny rail to install a rail mounted red dot. It really looked like sh*t, so this gun will need a lot of attention to make it look nice again. I’m planning to make a low, nicely fitting adapter plate for a trijicon rmr and since the gun isn’t in it’s original configuration anymore anyway, I think I’m going to Cerakote it as this gun doesn’t look really good anymore either. In the last two weeks I scrolled through 163 pages of different topics and I’ve found A LOT of information already. Too bad most of the pictures on the forum are not visible anymore. When I have collected my guns I’ll try to post some pictures here! |

This was a picture I made of the IAI gun when I went to the guy who was selling it.

Hi and welcome to the AMT forum!
That pistol seems to be a good start to make something different. As you say, a good low profile reddotsight would be a good option since the original rearsight and base is gone... The RMR is a nice idea. I'm a fan of the "docter/Noblex" sights. We look foreward to see the progress on your project, it's always nice to see new and different ideas!

Thank you very much Luc!
I’ve seen a few pictures of some items from your collection on the forum, and all I can say is “WOW, where did you find them in our small country?!
![]() For sure I’ll keep you guys updated with the progress of the project! If anyone knows where I can find some hammerstruts, please let me know. The pistols I bought are used (one a bit more than the other two) so I’m almost sure that I will need to replace some of them. |

Welcome! Lots of great information here. Not a busy forum.
When you take that slide apart, there is a ball bearing (and spring) in that safety lever that will go flying somewhere if you aren't super careful. Also, it is a real pain to put those back in or it was for me. Just so you know, it's a US sized bearing and not metric. Might not be the easiest to find if you loose it over there. However, if you do, your local bicycle shop might have one if they work on older bikes with loose ball bearings as there were a lot of "English" hubs out there (and even Shimano used "English" bearings when they were loose). I went to my stash of loose ball bearings for bicycles when I lost mine...... I think you should make the adapter and try to clean up the slide and leave it natural. or at least try it that way until you know your adapter works. Jason
