Bob,
Those are things you thought were lost to history. Very impressive that they have not only survived but are still together. A great heritage to the Auto Mag heritage and history. Thank you so much for sharing! Regards, Bill Wilson Lee's Summit, MO 816-377-3185

That looks like a interesting concept, I wonder if this gonna be a "improvement" on the next generation pistols...

Who knows, it sounds like the AMP "Model 180E" is currently on the drawing boards. Let's hope it makes it to production.

I had the camera out so I decided to take one more shot of 001.
Here it is with the Guns and Ammo magazine that it made the cover of. I kind of like the shot of it burning through a blueprint. I have read the article before but the picture of Jeff Cooper shooting it surprised me. I didn't remember him looking that young. ![]() It still looks pretty good after more than 53 years. |

I assume there are tabs on the ends of the rods that fit into the slots in the cocking piece? Sort of like an old GM distributor cap? The holes aren't pretty, but you'd just pop the rods out with a screwdriver or other tool; no need to unwind them from the threads. Not fancy aerospace-spec Heli-Coils, and with no threads, nothing to unscrew. And probably cheaper to make than the threaded rods and cocking piece, too. I think Max's original design was superior. EDIT: the picture of the disassembled gun showed the tabs as I expected |
