Photo of the 0002 gun.  The 0002 gun was featured in several ads later in Guns and Ammo and Gun World Magazines.  It was featured in the “POWER” brochure also.

Here is a photo of the 0003 gun.  It is the first Auto Mag to successfully function.  It fired about 25 rounds in a row before the sear broke.  The 001 and 0002 guns were fired but never able to cycle and function in a semi-automatic mode.  By the time the 0003 gun was produced Lovendale had hired three more designers to help with the project and Harry had hired Bob Barbasiewicz.  The design of the 0003 gun was a joint project of these five men.  After a difference in opinions on how the project should proceed, Mark Lovendale and the other three designers resigned and that just left Harry and Barbasiewicz to refine the prototype.

At this time, January of 1971, Auto Mag had one prototype that was semi working but needed a lot of refinement, two machinists, a draftsman, Harry and his Partner and over 1000 pistols on order.

There was a frame serial numbered 0004 but a mistake made in machining made it unusable and it was destroyed.  After 001, 0002, and 0003 the numbering sequence went to the “XP” series.  XP0005 through XP0017 were produced and after that point the standard production series started.

Actually Luc, I believe that 001 and 0002 spent most of their life in Europe with a collector.

I will have to get the facts on that to be sure.
