I know a lot of guys here have some exotic pistols, so I thought I would post this here.
As many of you know, JD Jones trotted out the 41 Avenger 1911 barrels around 1982, using a 451 Detonics case, necked to 41 caliber.  It didn't last long, since one year later, the 10mm Auto rolled out making it obsolete overnight.  At least that's what JD told me.

Anyway, after many years of searching GunStroker and Ebay for a 41 Avenger barrel, I have so far come up with exactly ZERO.  Which seems odd, since you would think no one would want it anymore and they would all be for sale.  One of those items that is rare, but not scarce....but as usual, I am wrong.

Anyway, my uncle actually had one, and I wrestled it away from him prior to him selling off his entire collection of very nice stuff to a broker house.

Here it is, loaded with a 190gr Hornady FTX.

As I began to open the dungeon to find my article covering the .41 Avenger, I suffered a sudden attack of laziness Confused. As much as I want to sit and read an old American Handgunner magazine today, It's just easier to ask:
How's it compare to the .40 Super? Big smile

Wow! Yes, that's the one.
That's service. Clap Thank you.
In looking it over, there is a lot of good stuff in there.
It would have been worth digging it out. I miss this part of the 80's.

Tony,

The .41 Avenger neck profile is what I should have copied when I developed the .40 KMP. If you ever get a set of reamers and dies, it might be worth making of a barrel (for a Grizzly, AM 1 or 4, etc) that uses the 41. Avenger profile, but using a .45 WM case. That would be a fun project. You can call it the .41 Tromix Wink

I've considered bumping my carry 1911 up from 9mm to .41 Action Express, which has a rebated, 9mm-size rim.

Finding a .41 barrel turned out to be the main problem. I got the idea I could run .41AE brass into a .400 Cor-Bon or .40 Super die for a semi-wildcat.

I'd have to get some .41AE brass - Starline sells it - and run it into the Cor-Bon and Super dies to see if they would form to the correct length. I have both die sets, but no brass. If the AE brass would form to Super length, I have a reamer and headspace gauges for that.

In the long run I'll probably never get the round tuits, but it was an interesting thought experiment.

McGowen offers .41 barrel blanks in carbon steel and 416 Stainless. They could probably do a large enough diameter to machine in a locking lug (1911, Grizzly or AM4).
