Being that I recently sold my prized, engraved, North Hollywood .44 AMP, I got the bug to see if I could find out just how many Auto Mags are actually in country.

So'z I phoned up the people at the Canada Firearms Program (registry) to ask that very question. Of course being a government bureaucracy they were unable to provide me with that information over the phone.

So'z I sent off an email to the CFR Fireams Technical Division (the RCMP - firearms forensics branch) a more specialized arm of the bureaucracy. They did have the data, however they were not allowed to release it without following the proper protocol. They were kind enough to point me in the right direction though.

So'z... following their instructions I sent in a request under the 'Access to Information Act' and paid my $5 online registration/processing fee... in hopes that they would be able to complete my request - no guarantees at the time!

Now the specifics of the information that I requested read like this:

How many Auto Mag pistols in total are there currently (or as recent a count as you have) in Canada, as listed under the following FRT numbers?
Auto Mag 160 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
Auto Mag 180 Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT)
Auto Mag 180 Auto Mag
Auto Mag 280 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
High Standard Auto Mag 160 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
High Standard Auto Mag 180 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
Common Model Numbers were: Model 180, Model 280, Model 100, Model 160 --- Known calibers were: 44 AMP, 357 AMP, 41 JMP

Being that no personal data such as owner's names or locations were part of the request - (which wouldn't have been given out) I was provided an answer!
In fact I just opened the letter about a half hour ago.
Because of the nature of content being empirical data only - it can be shared in the public commons.

So for all those interested for research sake, statisticians, or for those just plain ol' curious like me, here ya go:

4...........................Auto Mag 160 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
3...........................Auto Mag 180 Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT)
13.........................Auto Mag 180 Auto Mag
4...........................Auto Mag 280 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
0...........................High Standard Auto Mag 160 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)
6...........................High Standard Auto Mag 180 Trust Deed Estates (TDE)

For a Grand Total of 30 Auto Mags in all of Canada as of August 8th 2018.

So yeah, they are a rare creature up here for sure!

As far as you guys in the US, You'll have to guess how many are still in circulation because you don't have government counting how many pairs of underwear are in your drawers (aka gun registry). ....Except for your class 3 stuff through BATF tax stamp - defacto registration.

Have a good weekend guys! Smile

Thank you for the info! Even though I'm in the US its interesting to see how many AutoMags are in Canada. Also sorry to see that our Canadian friends have such a small pool of guns to buy. That is IF they even come up for sale.

It is pretty sorry alright, and not just on the Auto Mag front. The overall sales and imports of firearms into Canada is at an all time low due in part to two factors - #1 Our economy sucks #2 Our wackadoo Prime Minister sucks even harder!

So no one has any money to buy anything new or used when it comes to guns, and businesses are still sitting on 2016 - 2017 (or older) inventory.
To top that, the Liberal government will not leave gun owners alone - the latest is that Trudeau authorized a taxpayer funded study aimed at an outright ban on pistols and anything the 'Police/RCMP' deem to be an 'assault style rifle' !

see article here:

https://thegunblog.ca/2018/08/28/trudeau-says-to-study-full-ban-on-handguns-and-assault-weapons/

........ so there again, there is a way higher percentage of licensed Canadian gun owners that are afraid to buy more, than ones who would 'panic buy'.
- that's pretty much the lay of the land right now.

I think the control freaks might be all excited to move on something because of what the South African government just did with their legalized theft/ complete civil disarmament program... right at the kick off to the white farm land expropriations.

Fargin Commies are gonna get a face full of lead if they keep pushing good people with what they are attempting! Ouch

You are so WRONG! By the time you guys up there finally figure it out there will be very little guns to fight with. So many(the very few left) will finally give in and move along like nice sheep, sorry to say. I have been around awhile and understand more than most and how they learned to do this. They first split you into taking side on a certain types and than one by one take away that type making the total group smaller each time. They know taking the group on as a whole can't work so they work on the  "little by little" plan. They did this with motorcycle groups, split the type, old hogs v rocket bikers v helmets v non-helmets. It's so stupid that the groups don't see it coming, some just care about what affects them only and let it cut into the basic core groups until finally they are the only ones left and are too small to fight back. Then wonder what the hell happened and why don't others help them. The others are pissed why didn't you help them first so they moved on to other hobbies already and say f*** it to those left.
This has happened in everything, get a small group to fight against a large group, then split the large group up into saying it's only a little thing they want to ban and they just keep banning till there is nothing left and then they move to another project because it became their life's goal to make the world shaped into their vision only!
WAKE UP EVERYBODY!
Assult rifle v pistols v semi-auto v shotgun v hunting rifle v military style rifle v military pistol just labels  to split the groups for defeat later.

After all nobody needs a firearm with more than one shot for hunting! Why you hunt, there is food at the store! Wow, downhill fast!

Very sad movement of what people have become, just got to push what they believe onto others and not mind their own kids being raised as animals.

At least Canada isn't completely useless like Great Britain when it comes to firearms (speaking as an ex-Brit).

XP001, I agree, this is exactly what it is happening right now in France.
Last year ban of belt fed guns, and last month: ban of all ex full auto guns modified in semi-only (you can keep them for the moment, but they're now forbidden to sell or buy).
Next year, who know? And who cares...

Travis, good job!
I would love to see the number for France.
I guess it is much lower than that.

I think the country with the most AM after USA must be Germany. Many were imported there.
