I think you are right William.   I noticed it right away but was soon pleased when I saw how Patrick added a crown to the muzzle without disturbing the looks.  I would guess you could silver solder over the hole and hide it.  Or JB Weld and silver paint !  It does allow you to change out front sight blades.  I too believe it hurts the looks and makes people ask questions.  Maybe tell them it is for the bayonet or the grenade launcher..........HA

Hello AutoMag enthusiasts,

I wanted to address the above Grips. We have worked closely with the team over at Hogue to produce a updated quality and comfortable grip to bring the AutoMag into the modern age. Yes many other styles and colors will be available in the months to come. Our team here at Excel Industries all have fired this new grip pattern and can tell you that with this new grip the bite from the recoil is all but gone. We all found this very comfortable to shoot. A more traditional grip with the second series checkering and front swooping border is being developed for the "Founders Edition" and I am sure Patrick will share pictures with you soon.

AWESOME!!!!!!!  I can't NOT WAIT to see what you guys have in store.

G-10 is the material the AutoMag was made for!!!!  A variety of available styles and patterns are going to whet a LOT of appetites.

For me, the second series grip pattern was the prettiest and actually, as far as what was checkered and what was smooth, they are also very ergonomic.  What ruined them, per se, was the slick material they were made of.  G-10 will fix that right up!

ALL of my carry guns are G-10 except my Browning Hi-Power.  That still wears proper, Westinghouse Micarta....which, of course, is just the progenitor of modern laminates as pistol grip material.

Even smooth G-10 is incredibly grippy without being abrasive....it wicks sweat away like nobody's business and it's tough as nails.

I run Hogue G-10s on all of my Sigs....they are my goto grip maker for Sig pistols.

VZ for my 1911s.

BOTH are outstanding companies!!!

Thank you again for the great info, Richard!!!  I, for one, am darn well excited!!!!!!!!

My P6/225 hybrid I built this year...(or was it last? I can't remember anymore!) wearing Hogue G-10 grey/black checkered grips.

You know...BECAUSE it is truly functional...it doesn't bug me.  I love the idea of being able to have a spare front and have another traditionally filled, Smith and Wesson style...or whatever you please.  You could have partridge ramps made, etc.  And you gotta admit, that front tower looks GREAT!!!!

It has taken me some time....and, gosh how I would love the original rib.....BUT...the new rib is growing on me.  I think, after they are really solidly producing this gun, they may use feedback to look at the rib again and do some other tricks to it and the barrel.

Same here.  I am dead excited!  The ONLY thing I wish they could have done was a more original style of barrel.....but that would require some darn fancy cutting.  That being said...it looks great and I can't wait to shoot the snot out of mine!!!!

Maybe Patrick can organize a time for all of us to meet in South Carolina for a group photo of us 50 Founders.
