For the extra $400, that "ION applied finish" better be something durable.

Looks flat black in my browser.
At least the black DLC finish on that gun Kodiak was showing off was shiny... |

I agree with you on the DLC coating. Here is a SIG 210 that has the DLC coating on stainless and it is a beautiful gun. |

Finally my Classic Edition is in my hands.
But I still am waiting on a proceed from local LEO. Washington State liberals sure managed to screw up a perfectly good NICS background check system. Putting the burden of background checks on local Leo with out providing staffing to the departments 😡

I ordered the 8.5" Classic right now in high polish and wood grips with the box and medallion and am waiting for the barrels to come in in February and get this thing going!
Now to find a 4 piece RCBS die set...

I’ll post more soon, first firing went ok with one hiccup.
The gun is fantastic, however it has some very sharp edges (by that I mean hand cutting sharp), but cleaning that up on stainless is fairly easy. I had some failures to fire and it appeared to be a headspace issue, however further investigation lead me to discover multiple problems. Specifically with the fitting of the bolt totation pin and the accelerator threaded pin. So my assessment so far, the pistol is looking great, I just think they needed another 15 minutes of attention to detail to make it perfect. Edited, on further testing the gun was seizing up after a few rounds. The problem was in the fitting of the bolt rotation pin and later accelerator pin issues. Additionally what I thought were headspace issues were just the bolt failing to move freely and lock up. I love the gun and it is very accurate, I just seem to be facing a few production startup hiccups on this very early new model Automag |

Interesting. Trim length is 1.293” and max is 1.298” so it should easily chamber and lock up with 1.298. At least it’s not cut TOO deep. That would be a big problem.
Perhaps a visit back to the Mother Ship for a quick chamber ream wouldn’t be a bad idea? I assume it would be a very easy fix for them, and it would then make the gun ‘right’ so it wouldn’t require nonstandard-length ammo to run properly? I’m surprised your SBR ammo isn’t as hot as your handloads. When I chrono tested ammo, with a 6.5 inch barrel on an original TDE gun, I got almost exactly 1400 FPS from SBR 240gr JHP. 22.5gr of WW296 gave 1289 fps and 24.0gr gave 1393 fps. Both SBR and my 24.0 load seemed a bit overly hot for my tastes, so I plan to stick with something in the 22.5-23.0gr range. I’m glad you are enjoying your new gun!

As it turned out the chamber itself was fine, others issues with the bolt rotation pin were causing the bolt to not fully lock up.
It is resolved now.
