I'm looking forward to the range report once you get some time with it.

Hopefully these new guns are more reliable than the originals. (as far as feeding and cycling... mine was highly problematic)

I have quite a few of them and I have had no trouble once you get the hang of it.  The 475 pictured back on page 6 of this thread shoots fine with no troubles.  The trigger is terribly mushy and that is my only complaint.

Please forgive me if I missed this in reading the tread however I was looking at buying a Wildey. After visiting the site I was wondering if they were still taking orders. The web site is not updated, the phone listed answers to a machine but no one returns calls. Any one in the know?
Thx, T

They are taking orders yet as far as I know.  They are running it like a 'hobby business' it seems.  One guy does all the work as far as putting the guns together.  He is the owner's son.  The owner's daughter runs the office along with a couple of other screw machine shop offices for her dad.

I would fill out the order on line and then they will call you and give you the specifics.  They want 50% down.  Be sure and get the lead time they will need, they are slow.  Unless I can get them to make me a 357 AMP barrel I think I am done with them.

The quality of their builds is very good by the way, good luck.

Beemer1,

I took your advice, filled out the order form, no action, I replied to the email listed on the corona warning and I was contacted to say they will be back in the office this week to follow through. Ok that is a start... I read in past post this is an AMT gun site so I was wondering if there is a Wildey site similar to this one? I sure can't find it.

My connection is wanting to order it with a 44AM and 475 Wildey Barrel. I have dies for AM (the one I anticipate getting soon) however will need the dies for the 475. The 475 Wildey dies are like $265... Are there better dies at a better price? lots of questions. In an effort to not offend my Automag brothers I can take a PM from a 475 owner to get started.

Thx, T

There is no site for Wildey's.  There is a couple of Facebook sites with no traffic.

Where did you get the die price from?  What brand?   I can fix you up with a new Lyman 4 die set for $200.

I don't know what is going on at USA Firearms, slow, slow slow.

Be aware that for the 44 AMP cartridges to fit in the Wildey magazine they have to be loaded shorter than for the standard AMP.

Just curious why anyone would be interested in a Wildey in 44 AMP given the other Wildey calibers, and the fact that the Wildey 44 AMP is a hybrid 44 AMP AND that most of the 44 AMP loads are for WW-296 powder which I thought was not recommended for use in Wildeys.

I see the appeal for the 475, its a BEAST of a round, very impressive, and maybe even their 357 (Peterbuilt I think)

If you wanted something less potent (not sure why, but if you did) then maybe the 45 Win Mag.

But the modified 44 AMP just seem like a very odd choice.

Is there some specific reason other then to have some odd round?

Sorry just dont know enough about them to understand this option and why it would ever be desirable.

Thanks

I guess my question is why wouldn't you want another round for the pistol?

They shoot very accurately and with the gas system you can load down a bit and shoot indoors comfortably.

My only bitch about Wildey's is they are a bit "awkward" to shoot with the huge grips.  They were designed to accept a double stack mag of 9mm Win mag but that never happened.  The triggers are mushy also.

I talked to Wildey Moore about the Peterbuilt and the brass is a bitch.  Without annealing it is hard to get the 475 case necked down without losing a lot of them.  Dies would be a very expensive proposition.

They have left over 357 barrel blanks in stock.  I have been trying to get them to run a batch of 357 AMP barrels.  I would like a 12" one.

Hi Beemer1,

The price on the dies only appears as an option if you make an order. See my order below. Also I did not realize the 44AMP was Hybrid and good thing I asked. That's the cool think about this forum is the knowledge. I will not be ordering a 44AMP barrel. My intent was to share ammo with the Classic however really don't want the hassle of tracking 2 AMP cases and powders. If they where interchangeable it was a thought. For the Dies, again i don't have the knowledge. Hornady vs Lyman ??? your thoughts?

When I got my first Auto Mag the only dies I could find were Hornady and they were garbage.  I found a set of RCBS and jumped on them.

Lyman has made most of the 475 Wildey dies and they are good.

The Bronson gun was a 10" with a gray rib, ribs are interchangeable.

The brass for the AMP and the Wildey are the same.  You just set the bullet intro the case deeper for the Wildey.  It is not a hassle at all in my opinion.  I do not load the AMP's on a progressive press anyway so  I load for two different guns.  I just don't see the problem, you mark on the box what the load is any way.

Wildey triggers are really bad also.
