Does anyone know whether the recoil spring in a .45 Long Slide is the same as a standard 1911 pistol...16 lbs?
Thanks in advance.

Get the Wolffe longslide calibration pack. The pack I purchased from Wolffe, has 5 springs in it. There are no poundage listing for the springs, just #1 through 5. Start with the heaviest spring, and work down until you get the result that you want.

Thanks...I'll contact Wolff's and report back. When I buy a used auto pistol with an unknown round count I like to replace the springs on general principles. As dirty and caked with crud as this pistol was when I bought it it's safe to assume it's seen many rounds go down range.

I talked to a rep at Wolff's...he said the Longslide spring packs were an assortment of springs that are extra long for gunsmiths putting together custom longslide guns...to be cut down and experimented with until the right combination is found.
He felt that the standard 16 lb. spring should be fine. The extra mass of the longer slide should negate any need for a heavier weight spring which could induce malfunctions. He said if any change in spring is necessary a lighter weight spring would be needed instead of heavier...and only if the 16 lb. spring caused issues.

One more hint, the hammerspring is also a part of the recoilsystem. The force of the recoil is also used to cock the hammer, so it might be a good time to replace this one to.

No problem...I replace all springs in an auto pistol with an unknown round count. I think it's prudent.

Also, although the AMT longslide guns are two inches longer than a regular 1911, the architecture is such that they use a standard recoil spring. The plug on the end of the spring is much longer and features a two-inch solid section. So the front of the spring is in nominally the same location as that in a regular 1911. There is just a bunch of extra stuff hanging out in front of it……
