While on the Hawk bullet site researching for another pistol I seen they have 44 automag bullets that are .429 and 44 mag bullets that are in .430. I have been told by those that Hornady 240gr XTP's work well in the Automag. Hawk bullets look custom and that there might be something to it soooooo…….
Now I'm confused???? I load regularly for my S&W model 29 and was thinking to use the same bullet for both the S&W and the automag when I get it. 240gr XTP, 23gr of 296 and CCI350 Please tell me what's wrong with my thinking? Does anyone have experience with Hawk bullets. Thx, Tim |

When the 475 Wildey's came out no one was making bullets so Hawk made them especially for the Wildey's. Now other manufacturers are running them.
I have found Hawk bullets not to be very good. JMO

Hawk's claim to fame was that their bullets were all sorted by weight to increase consistency.
After seeing them it looked to me like their consistency from bullet to bullet was so bad that they were forced to do this. I bought a Wildey with two barrels from a real interesting guy in Colorado who had hunted all over North America. He had a long barrel for hunting and a shorter one he carried as backup in Alaskan hunts. The package included some Hawk bullets and I inquired about them. He said accuracy and performance was much lower than other brands so stopped loading them and they were left over.

They say there’s no better advertisement than word-of-mouth and with this I may look into other options for the other pistol. I am still baffled though, .429 or .430 for the Automag. I have shot both through a Virginia Dragoon and never thought about it.
Again I appreciate everyone’s input and experience.

I have shot nothing but .429 bullets in my Auto Mags. I use the same in my 629 Smiths.
