I have been going through some boxes of my Brothers stuff I packed away just before he passed away and found a Safariland model 103 holster for a .44 Auto Mag, it needs some thing to rejuvenate the leather but other then that it is in pretty good shape. It need to have the strap stretched a bit to snap shut but I think what ever I use on the holster will help with that.

Strap won't stretch that far, need to get gun further in. Try this to keep leather from cracking...https://www.leatherhoney.com/

Its actually closer then that but that's the best I could one handed, its only about a 1/8" away when I use both hands. I am sure once the holster is a bit softer the gun will go deeper into the holster and the strap will loosen up a bit. I will check out the Leather Honey, thanks for the tip.

I'm sure you've checked for junk in the way, but be sure theres no damaged leather down in the bottom, either. Also, notice if the barrel moves back while pushing the gun in. Looks good in the pic, but you know what I mean.

Maybe try getting the strap good and wet, force it closed, let dry in place. Before conditioning the leather, of course.

Nothing better than good old fashioned sweat from hip time to loosen up gun leather!

Get a pan of warm water, drop the holster in, and let it soak overnight. Put the gun in a plastic bag and force it into the softened holster, let dry.

I've done that to a couple of holsters that didn't quite fit, including reforming one from 1911 to FEG GKK.

Note: warm water usually works on cowhide; usually not on horsehide. Most holsters are cowhide.

Interestingly, the Safariland 103 holster I just got retains the gun at the back of the cocking piece, rather than behind the trigger guard, which would afford the opportunity to carry ‘cocked and locked’ in safety.

However, the holster is so hard it feels like it’s made of wood, and there is no prayer of getting the gun inside.  I recently got some Pecard Leather Dressing from Midway to soften up a new rifle sling and it did a wonderful job. If I was to try to use it here, would it have to be used on the inside as well, or do you think it would work by just rubbing it on the outside?

Or should I try the water pan soak trick first?

I’m torn as to which path to take.....
