Does anyone have a picture of an original case with the original foam? Several years ago I ordered some replacement foam from someone on this site (sorry,I can't remember whom-might have been in Florida?) and just now decided to open it and put it in my case. Well, I see that the foam for the lid is smaller than the lid itself. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it. I noticed the foam topic that is most recent, shows foam that completely covers the lid. Is this correct or is the foam I have correct? Thanks for all your help!

Is this what you are after?

The foam has not been replaced in this case as far as I know.

Any case that I have that has the original foam, the lid section is smaller.  To me it does not look right but I have about 5 or 6 that way,  I do not know if all of them were shipped that way.

Ian, that does not look original to me.

Thanks guys for your input. I thought the smaller foam looked odd, but if that's correct, it's ok with me.

You are correct when you say it looks odd.  I have always wondered why it was that way.

Maybe it was one of those things where one of the investors had to have it "their" way. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I was just rereading the article "Interview with Max Gera" & was astonished that the investors could screw things up like that.

The original case I have, the foam is smaller too. I have seen the same thing in instrument cases (think field lab instruments, not music) that had similar cases from the same era. The top foam was smaller. It usually cover and kept the instrument in place though. And guess what, that foam deteriorated too, just like all foam does eventually.

If anyone hasn't read this site, DON'T store your Automag in the case touching the foam!!!!!

Big Thunder,
I was the member that originally had the reproduction foam made and you likely bought it from me. I used an early Pasadena as the pattern because the foam was relatively intact. The foam was made identical to the factory original in the Pasadena case.

Beemer is now taking care of the foam. He is having the same pattern made and reproduced by the same company I originally used. It is a very good reproduction.

FWIW,
Charlie

I do not have any more of the foam.

Fuenteguy has some and is selling it on eBay.
