Being an AMT I wouldn't trust that all of their 1911s had the same frame, but at least a couple of people who have tried fitting a beavertail found their frames were shaped different enough to make fitting a hassle. If you decide to go that route, give it the hairy eyeball from every angle to make sure you have enough metal in the right places to blend the frame and beavertail together.

Armand Swenson (the gunsmith, not the cheap parts company using his name) used to do an extended grip safety; basically a quarter inch or so tail welded on behind the hammer and shaped. If you want the beavertail to help position your grip or to avoid hammer bite instead of just for the look, you might went to look into something like that. Downside: I don't know of anyone actually making such a thing any more, so you'd have to have a standard part welded and then file it to fit. (if someone knows of a source, speak up!)

If you just want a Commander-style hammer, you can grind a small divot in the AMT's GI-style safety tang to let the hammer move back far enough to engage the sear. Or you can bob a bit off the spur.
