Well I got in a little range time in today. I finally got me a chronograph, so I checked my hand loads agianst some "factory" loads.  Using my Pasadena with 6.5" barrel. First load was Corbon 240gr, clocked in at 1528 fps avg. OWS 240 gr, clocked in at 1326 fps avg.  Handloads with 25.0 gr of W296 avg'd 1549 fps.

What is strange is that the Corbon and OWS both cycle well in my pistol, but my handloads do not.  Like I said before I am using Hornady 240gr, XTP bullets. I did buy some Sierra JHC bullets to try to see if bullet shape makes the difference.

The only problem is today I broke my reloading press. Cry  It was a single stange Lee press.

Now I need another press fast! Try to order one from Midway, but the one I wanted was on backorder.

Oh well always something. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.

Carl,

Glad you got some range time!!

Single Stage Lee, I'd expect that.  Hope you ordered Rockchucker, or a Lyman Orange Crusher.

I never tried the Hornady XTP's.  I like the Nosler JSP's myself.  I used some Nosler JHP's but had a few problems, but I cannot attribute it to the JHP's because it's what I used to first work up loads.

We need to post load speeds somewhere.  I need to dig out my CDM Ammo chrono data I did.

Once you get a new press, report back please!!!!

J, I found my notes on a post of yours about the CDM in '05 on Curmudgeon's web-site. I think it was in answer to a question from Marcus (it's been a while - has anyone heard from him?) I believe it was 5 rounds of CDM factory ammo in a 6.5" TDE - 1243, 1303, 1301, 1243 and 1168 fps. This may also have been on the 44automag.org forum at one time.

I'm not for sure on the bullet mfger or weight. We discussed that a while back, but IIRC it was unclear as to the make. Wasn't it a 240?

BTW, not to include too many things in one post, but I'm curious what the graphics look like on TC's box of OWS. Just wondering if they're same as mine.

The factory CDM was all 240 gr I believe.  That chrono data looks right, yep only 5 rounds.
