FWIW I think ebay only collects sales tax from sellers who are businesses?  I’m not 100% sure on that though.

I wonder if this barrel will go to the underbidder, or be relisted?

It’s a dirtbag move to bid on something, win it, then back out of the deal.

Do you use eBay.......................... I do and yes they charge sales tax in all but 1-2 states and that's going to end by 7-1-20, they just started collecting sales tax here in California I believe it was 7-1-19 new or used, personal or business, don't believe me look it up or talk to a enlisted agent or CPA as there might be exceptions.

As far as backing out eBay allows it.

eBay changed the way ratingsare calculated years back, someone gives you a negative it used to hurt your rating forever but eBay changed that, if you don't have another negative within a year's time eBay forgives you and your back up to a 100% satisfaction rating.  Now that's a BS rule but its there rules or go elsewhere.

eBay has an option to go to the next highest bidder but there is a problem with that it's called shill bidding, running up the bid buy the seller using another bidder name that's them, I have seen it first hand and its no fun bidding against a ghost.

Yes it could be relisted, it depends on the person that listing the auction.

Have I backed out of bids......yes I have if they don't answer a question I have or they add something new to the description after the bidding has started.
I collect Redline Hot Wheels and have had to on a few occasions and explained to the seller why I did but in the Redline world we go by reputation and most people selling give a refund within a specified time frame, this auction stated no refunds so what would you do.................

You should watch who or why you label someone a dirt-bag, never accuse anyone unless you know both sides of the story Wink

Ok I'll eat the flames on this one. I'm the 'dirtbag'  who asked the seller to cancel the transaction.
I was the high bidder.

In short and you can flame me all you want: I bid on it as the guy listed it as 'New'. New you say; well crap how could it be new if these haven't been made in many, many years?? Anyone ever hear of NOS parts? I buy engines for my models that are 45+ years old and they are often new, I buy common parts for early 70's Datsuns that are NOS parts. So the possibility of a NOS AM barrel was real. I admit I didn't look at it close enough. I made an auto bid and later was caught up in some other business and didn't come back to it until just after the auction ended.

Just about that time I came here and read all the comments about how crappy this extension was including the bent rear sight. I contacted the seller about it and asked him about the damaged rear sight, hoping he'd give more insight into it. His reply was essentially " The piece in used and you see the photos".  At that point I asked him to cancel the transaction which he did without protest. I point no fingers, it is what it is. I accept blame, I screwed up and I need to be more observant. It will not happen again.

I have two Autmags, I've been wanting a 357. I was the guy who bid and won the RCBS 357 AMP dies; done and dusted, they are on their way. I've only backed out (requested my purchase price back) of one other auction in all my years on ebay 15-16 years ago and that was a flat out fraud on some Starrett tools.

So yes, call me a dirtbag.

Your no dirt-bag and I understand how auctions go......don't be so hard on yourself you did ask Matt to cancel your bid and he agreed , he can be very short on words and explanations.

eBay is hoping we all get caught up in the moment that way they make more money.

I also understand how we miss things and then see it or read about other that notice something wrong.

It was way over priced anyway in my opinion for its condition.

Did you bid on the other item he had............I did and won it for I think it was $64.00 and with tax and shipping it was $73 and change new they are 219.00 and add in tax and shipping and your at about $256.00 if you can find them when you need them, I thought that was a deal.

Remember Auto-mag's are  kinda rare  and spare parts are even rarer so when the appear be ready to jump on them because who knows what will happen with the new Automag company, Brian's is no longer selling spare parts so what do you do when you need a specific part to fix your broken hunk of stainless.

Good look in the future

Well this sure has been an interesting thread to put it mildly......................

After reading post after post and figuring out what was happening with this barrel, the auction, and all the opinions made as to its value, I have to say there was one person who called it for what it really was, comedy and ego.

That person was Pasadena Joe, he may have ruffled a few feathers along the way but he called it.

Things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, plain and simple, everyone wants a deal and that deal depends on how fast you need something and how long your willing to wait for that something.

Sometimes when you find that deal things are not fully disclosed or its misrepresented to raise the value of that item, that's why this board is so helpful.

We are here to network,  make new friends, share stories, help one another out and destroy lot's of targets Beer

Well that's how I feel Cool

Well thats possibly the nicest thing anyone has said about me since I joined up here LOL

Truth is my comments are usually harsh (for this site) and I dont stop and try to clean up my posts when I know I should. So most of the responses to me are probably reasonable.

Thats as apologetic as I get, please dont hold your breath for my next such post Dead

As for this barrel being new or damaged or anything other than it was, well it was a lunch box barrel and you all should have been able to see.  Sorry no excuses.  You boys should not be playing with toys you cant afford and dont know what you doing.  This is the exact problem that Automag has had since the beginning.  just cuz its pretty dont mean its for everyone. This was never an everymans gun and while the new Automag folks are trying to change that, I just dont see it happenin.

Too many of you want to play with a rare and limited build gun that will always have some quirks and will always be expensive and you want it to be like a Ruger Blackhawk that might just need a little TLC.  Well sorry that aint Automag.  Better to know that now than be the fool separated from hie money (that clearly some of you dont really have) and at the same time be dissatisfied with your purchase.

Now see ive gone and done it again LOL.  -Joe

Well Ed you are right about that, this has been an interesting experience. Proves that some of the most educational moments don't cost a lot, save some red face moments.

I came here to learn. I walked by Automags new in the showcase for years when in the 1970s I visited my favorite LGS like Frasier in Cheers. I was working and had the dough to buy one but never did. I don't know why I got the bug several years ago, delayed reaction I guess. Mauser C96 "Broomhandles"  for years have and they remain the focus of my collection and interest. I've done a lot more with them than just about every other sort of gun.  I know what finicky is...

I'm sure I'll make other dumb mistakes with Automags, but as long as they're limited to saying or buying dumb things and not anything dangerous to self, others or the pistols I'll call it a win.

While I have a lot to learn I'm not the sort who is ever going to cross the street for touchy feelie Automag things, Automag 'memorabilia', brochures, patches, signed or named anything; I'd never turn any of it down if given or it's part of an an item I want but it will never be a separate goal. I don't do it for anything, just no interest. As fascinated as I am with guns, they're just machines and that's all they'll ever be to me. I want to understand them, how to take care of them, how they are to work properly.

So hang in there, sooner or later I might actually contribute something of value here...!

Well this is what I have to say Censored.............just kidding

Pasadena Joe
You called it like you saw it and you might have ruffled a few feathers oh well, they'll will get over it
We have p/m before and you have always been straight forward and honest, what more can a person ask for.

TankMan
Glad you were able to back out before being take advantage of, the barrel was over priced but we all learned a lesson here.

golden24
Good luck with the barrel, looks like you got it for a reasonable price , let us know how it works out

Rocketthon
Sounds like you got a barrel at a fair price, as long as your happy with it that's all that counts
hope you enjoy shooting with it.

BEEMER1
Yes that looked to be a great bargain, your foam inserts are spot on perfect and very reasonably priced
Thank You

Pantera Mike
We have p/m before, thanks for all your advise but don't label someone a dirt bag unless you know both sides of the story

Pontiaker
I have has some dealings with you before and to be honest they were not easy or pleasant, yes you had a stroke, divorce and then a bad car crash, I am sorry I can relate to what your going thru.
I had a stroke, wife left for another women, I am the one that understands what your going thru but that dose no excuse you from what has happened, some of the parts you are selling are not being honestly described, yes you can try and blame it on the stroke but does this defines who you truly are.
Good luck in Modesto and getting your life back on track

We are on this board to help one another out because we are all learning, there are very few experts on the Automag

There aren't many people that know what an Automag is let alone have shot one or own one or more.
There are those that want to showoff what they have or try and set the market , there just a hunk of stainless, only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it but they sure are a blast to play with.

I have been lucky to have meet some of the nicest people out here from sharing information, selling me parts to good old shooting the sh*t, none of us are any better than the other

That's why I joined

This thread sure died all of a sudden, didn't mean to ruffle any feather, I will leave that up to Pasadena Joe LOL    It was just a joke PJ
I just wanted to let several others know I got my two small parts today, they were just as pictured and described so yes I got a good deal on some spare parts, i'm just hoping I never have to use any Wink
I was just curious how that barrel worked out, keep us posted and if you want to do it with a pm that's fine too
The positive side of this post is someone purchased a barrel for $800.00 which I consider a reasonable price but who am I to say what is reasonable.
